Be Still Sunday 2

‘Be still and know that I am God.’  ~ Psalm 46:10

I’m taking the time to appreciate and reflect on all that is good in my life. Sometimes when we are stressed or burdened, it is difficult to consider and be thankful for all the blessings that have come our way. Taking the time to be still and connect with God can give us strength and courage to face difficult times. I will admit that this has been an off year for us. I would like some things to be different, but I’m still thankful. We have our health, we have a home, and we have family and friends. And of course, we have God so I give thanks.

Today, I am feeling my heart and home blessed…

~because I now know how to twirl 😉  I was wearing a long skirt when I was with my granddaughters, ages 2 and 5. They also had skirts on so I asked them how to twirl. They were very excited to show me how and there is a lot more to it than I realized. After pushing off to start the twirl, your foot has to come out behind you and your arms have to be outstretched. Yep, it’s complicated for someone like me. But I think I got it. So my take from this…twirl and twirl some more. It does the heart good.

~due to my love of sunflowers. They make me smile. I am not the best at growing them, though. I manage to get some to bloom from seed, but not all. Next spring I have challenged myself to take some extra steps for better success. And I hope to use heirloom seeds, also. The best and tallest sunflower I ever had in my yard was one I did not plant. Really! I guess a bird who dropped the seed is the one I have to thank. And would you believe that the sunflower was centered in the garden? Must have been a God thing.

~with one of our nephews who came to visit us for a few days. All the way from CA. He came last year, too. Quite a good, young man. Considerate. Polite. Hard worker. And even good looking 😉  He has had to face some difficult times in his life. His dad died of cancer when he was a baby and his mom passed away of cancer when he was 18 years old. As you can imagine, he holds a special place in our hearts.

My thoughts and prayers…

~are with those who are now facing hurricane Irma. These storms are so devastating. I have family in FL and I hope and pray for them and everyone else in harm’s way.  Stay safe and know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Be blessed,

Cindy

  1. I stood in front of a huge field of sunflowers while I was in France this summer! (I tried to copy it into this message but couldn’t so if you have a email address I will send it to you). Standing there I was so aware of the present moment, the stillness and the beauty, the fullness of God in that moment!! Just felt like sharing it with you!!! thank you for your post!!

  2. Cindy,
Yes, even in troubled times there is much to be thankful for! This has not been the summer I would have hoped for, but I know I will look back on it and say, “that wasn’t so bad”. At least, I’m hoping!! So sorry for the loss that your nephew suffered. I can only imagine how difficult that had to be! My best sunflowers were ones I didn’t plant as well. Thank God for those little birds!!
    hugs,
    Jann

  3. The biggest and best sunflower I ever grew was a volunteer that came up in the center of the Iris bed in the back yard. Isn’t that funny? Only two grew in the garden and they both were short and puny. 🙂 I love your blog!
